THE COURSE
Blackhawk Golf Club is simply one of Canada’s finest golf courses. Ranked as the Best New Course in Western Canada by Golf Digest when it opened in 2003, and currently ranked #13th in Canada by SCORE Golf Magazine, Blackhawk is quickly earning the reputation as one of the premier golf facilities in the country.
Created by Alberta’s own Rod Whitman, Blackhawk is timeless in design, with Whitman paying homage to such icons as Stanley Thompson. From the moment the course opened, it has earned rave reviews from such personalities as Peter Jacobsen, who described the course as “...an overall classic layout.” World renowned golf course architect Bill Coore has worked with Rod Whitman on many projects, and describes Rod’s talents, “Rod Whitman is one of the truly talented golf course designers in our business today".
Most courses are fortunate to have even one ‘signature’ hole. Blackhawk has several worthy of that designation. The 11th hole is a spectacular par-5, 590 yards of pristine fairway, bunkers and a peninsula green featuring an elevation drop of over 100 feet from the tee to the fairway. Players barely have time to catch their breath after finishing #11 when along comes the 12th hole, an incredible par-3 stretching 237 yards from the tips, with most of that a carry over water. Purists will delight in #4, a wonderful par-5 of only 519 yards which features bunkering and mounding very reminiscent of the best works of Stanley Thompson.
